Chapter 7: Greed and Gold

2. Chaptered Event Commencement

(This event and the current situation of Mortegard was played out from The Gathering Of Rulers – a roleplaying meeting, held on Discord. All are welcome to join in on these meetings and participate in shaping the fate of Mortegard. The outcome of thsi event is now determined by on-game contributions and results in potential powerful rewards for those that participate)

Impressed by the efforts of the lesser rulers, the enigmatic warlord Z’Phorrah of the Demon Clans of Sha’haiya requests their aid in locating one of her lost allies: A vanished tribe, housed within a legendary mobile city known as the Ark of Storms, lost deep in the wastes.

Z’Phorrah’s clan also demonstrated their kinetic battle apparati, and plans to assemble a contingent covertly for use by the lesser rulers.

These efforts are expensive, as any respectable Sha’haiyan would be quick to mention, and both operations must commence in secret, without the harvests of the Firthland and without tapping into the gold reserves of the greater Sha’haiyan Merchant’s guild.

In exchange for food, the Demons have offered the rulers a portion of the Sha’haiyan Ashen Desert where the Ark of Storms is thought to roam, and the contribution of gold will directly translate to finely-crafted weapons of war. In light of the magnitude of support, they will also expand the merchant network from Sha’haiya to fully incorporate the smuggling-network turned legitimate trade network.

An explanation on rewards:

Unlike previous events, we will have fixed rewards for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd spots. The rest will be drawn at weighted random between all contributors excluding the top 3.

Additional Note: Typically from events, all resources are burned, gone forever. In full transparency, as is our policy, these resources are being sent to the multisig dev wallet. Our intention for these is to use them to bolster the existing LPs and build the item LPs. This prevents the minting of any new resources and helps bring stability to prices over the long term as we continue to grow.

The King in Black offered his hand in taking the offensive against the outer regions of Arkenheart. At the tail end of The Great War, Bolochtar extended aid to Arkenheart and took back swathes of land for the dwarves. However, when the Dwarves made their way back in, they saw what the Curse of Bolochtar had done to the people of Bolochtar, and deemed them necromantic abominations, striking at hands offered in friendship.

The King in Black now wishes to return this ill-will to Arkenheart. The souls that were taken wrongfully that day were never sent, and he has offered to pull them from the Well of Souls and place them in iron suits called ‘felsarbors’. These vessels for the unsent souls of the wronged will allow those betrayed and slaughtered to march once more to claim their revenge for the unjustified wrath wrought upon them.

As decided by the negotiations, the lesser rulers gain control of any lands and castles captured. The Hathaway House also offered the services of any risen warriors of theirs who choose to remain on the mortal plain. In return, The King in Black asks for Mana and Gold, both instrumental to developing the ‘felsarbors’ as well as the assault on Arkenheart itself.

An explanation on rewards:

This time there are 2 different types of rewards, Courtiers and Castles.

The Courtiers will scale in power based on total contributions.

The castles will be legendary and extremely limited in mint and feature a dwarven theme. 18 Development slots, and 3 courtier slots and only ever released as rewards for this event. Rare versions will be available for purchase at a later point in time after the event end.

—Courtiers—

There will be 2 types of Courtiers, Hathaway Matriarch and Hathaway Nobles, who’s power is determined on total contributions. They will be distributed based on percentile Brackets:
100th to 90th(top) Percentile will have 6 Matriarchs and 15 Nobles Raffled
90th to 75th(second) Percentile will have 5 Matriarchs and 12 Nobles Raffled

55th to 30th(fourth) Percentile will have 3 Matriarchs and 7 Nobles Raffled
30th to 1st(lowest) Percentile will have 2 Matriarchs and 5 Nobles Raffled

Their bonuses are determined as follows:
300,000 Total Contributions = +2% Bonus

90th to 75th(second) Percentile will have 4 Castles Raffled
75th to 55th(third)Percentile will have 3 Castles Raffled

The outcome of thsi event is now determined by on-game contributions and results in potential powerful rewards for those that participate)

A meeting was held with The Bandit King, and Fre’ja, a strange and knowledgeable demon alchemist, who has interest in discovering knowledge hidden from smaller rulers by the Greater Kingdoms. She wishes to establish a secret laboratory to finalize her findings and is offering her stash of treasures from the Wilderlands as a reward in exchange for iron, and wood for her experiments.

But it wasn’t long until a fresh conflict arose. The Grey Fingers intruded on the meeting with the infamous Bandit King leading to The Bandit King’s demise at the wrong end of a cinderbar, loosed from the hand of Rordras Dustshoulder.

The Rulers present were angered, and drove the Grey Fingers from the chamber in a rage This led to a mysterious raven making an offer to find them an ally to defend them, and the Sha’haiyan Merchants Guild offering them items in exchange for gold, food and iron to help ready their kingdoms for conflict.

An explanation of reward distribution:

There are going to be two separate pools, which will be contributed to separately, with different rewards.

Giving to the Merchants will reward common items, and giving to Fre’ja will reward rare items.

These are rewarded(per individual) as follows:

Merchants
750 points = 25 commons
3750 points = 150 commons
30,000 points = 1500 commons
90,000 points = 6000 commons

Fre’ja
750 points = 1 rare
3750 points = 5 rares
30,000 points = 45 rares
90,000 points = 180 rares

Exceeding the maximum point value will cause the contribution sum for the sake of reward calculation to reset, *eg for the Merchants 90750 points=6025 items, and 180,000 points=12000 items and so on.

If the total donations as a whole reach these thresholds, bonuses to distributions per individual will be applied:
100k: +4% items
200k: +8% items
300k: +12% items
400k: +16% items
500k: +20% items
They are restricted to the relative pool(one lot for Merchants, and one lot for Fre’ja)

Additional Note: Typically from events, all resources are burned, gone forever. In full transparency, as is our policy, these resources are being sent to the multisig dev wallet. Our intention for these is to use them to bolster the existing LPs and build the item LPs. A dangerous criminal is on the loose in the Lesser Kingdoms of Mortegard. Using the rare mineral known as Eulogium, he has synthesized a strange, unstable metal and is distributing it through the underground smuggling networks.

This metal is highly volatile, and is liable to violently explode under any stress. Shards of debris that manage to lodge themselves in the flesh of living creatures cause deterioration of skin, bone, and blood.

The Grey Fingers seek to reprimand this fugitive and return them to the Tsardom where their skills can be put to better use.

To facilitate this process, The Grey Fingers ask for the following:

Iron – For payment of their services, and to help improve the roadways between the Lesser Nations and Arkenheart, promoting trade and travel
Mana – For aid in divining the locations of Embercrafters.

Other contributions will be accepted. Food to feed the caravans of Fugitive Hunters and Roadcrafters. Gold is always welcomed as a common means of trade. However, The Tsardom has little use for wood in their search efforts.

In exchange for these contributions, The Grey Fingers offer to share knowledge of a recent discovery by the Ironheart Alchemical Society: Shimmershrooms. These are large mushrooms which produce iron in their stems with edible heads.

Greater contributions will result in more productive Shimmershroom Farms, and make more of their substrate available for distribution.

Being a just people, careful attention will be paid to each ruler and their respective contributions, but they make no guarantees to inoculate every kingdom.

An explanation of reward distribution:

There will be no minimum threshold for a guaranteed tile this time, instead, there will be rungs for rewards, and these will be entitled to a percentile based weighted random distribution, to ensure a more fair chance at a development card.

A staked castle will be required to qualify for rewards, as well as a minimum contribution of 5,000 (after multipliers).

A base quantity of 32 Mushroom farms will be created and distributed to players in rungs based on percentiles. Each threshold reached will result in additional tiles being created, along with an increase in output per unit. 50% of the additional tiles will be distributed across the rungs in the same proportions, and 50% will be distributed via a weighted raffle across all contributors. Each tile within a bracket will be drawn individually.

The distribution of rewards will be as follows:

  • 100th to 90th(top) Percentile will receive 30% of the base tiles
  • 90th to 75th(second) Percentile will receive 25% of the base tiles
  • 75th to 55th(third)Percentile will receive 20% of the base tiles
  • 55th to 30th(fourth) Percentile will receive 15% of the base tiles
  • 30th to 1st(lowest) Percentile will receive 10% of the base tiles

50% of the bonus tiles will be dispensed in the same distributions as above, rounded down. The remaining tiles will be distributed as a weighted random draw across the entire pool.

If the 2.5m threshold is reached there will be a portion of these Shimmershroom Farms that will be significantly more powerful that will be distributed as well.

Part 1: A Temporary Alliance

(This event and the current situation of Mortegard was played out from a roleplaying meeting, held on Discord. All are welcome to join in on these meetings and participate in shaping the fate of Mortegard.)

As many of you will be aware, there appears to be a threat in the wilderlands of Mortegard. A parasitic being seems to be spreading, devouring food, rotting wood, corroding iron. While countermeasures to this are as of yet unknown, The Grey Fingers have offered their services at keeping them at bay through embercrafted wards. These will be applied by The Bandit Kings’ people to help stave this threat off until further measures can be taken.

As negotiated with both The Grey Fingers for their services and The Bandit King for helping his people, the following is requested to be sent through the trade network:
Food – To replenish The Bandit Kings’ stores
Gold – To employ the services of the Tsardom and Grey Fingers for wards to keep this threat at bay
Mana – To aid in the creation of embercrafted wards

Any Iron will be sent to the Tsardom, and Wood will make its way to The Bandit Kings’ Nation to help build fortifications.

Part 1: A NEW KING

URGENT WARNING

It has come to the attention of the Order of the Shepherds that banditry has begun to run rampant in the nearby regions. Survivors from wandering caravans and lone merchants have informed us that highwaymen have been waylaying travelers along the roads. Furthermore, they’ve been collapsing bridges and destroying commonly used trails to halt travel long enough to rob people of their wares and supplies.

As our duty as the vigilant eye of Lorne, Goddess of Travel, we ensure such heinous acts of violence and wickedness will be met with justice, and will not again interfere with the freedom that is bestowed upon all of us. We, the Lantern Lighters, will do everything within our power to leave no quarter for these thieves and crooks.

The Order of the Shepherds hereby formally requests aid from those earnest believers of our guiding goddess. Supplies in any form, be it rations, metalwork or even labor are not only appreciated, but encouraged so as to help repair the bridges and roads in a timely manner.

May she forever guide the lost – The Lantern Lighters”

A man, naming himself “The Bandit King” has written a formal request for a meeting with those that would take the time to reason with him. His note is as follows:

Fellow Rulers,

It has come to my attentshin that resources are being pledged in the hopes of causing the destrukshin ruining of my operashin.

These criminals highwaymen are just ordinry citizens, much like most of you probly were…prior to the war. With the crooked butchering distorting the balance of power, many of them were simply.. misplaced. There farms burned, there workshops and towns even cities burned to cinders.

Not all that survived the war were as fortunate as you and me. In fact me too  I wouldn’t have did much better, had I not unified these vagabonds, and used our plunder spoils donateshins for much more betterer uses things.

I prupose a negrosseeashin negoshiashin! Our camps are not far from your roads, we wish to secure self sufficienshe but lack the means, the skill and the women to do it.

Until now your citizens have been kind enough to surrender donate to our delitefull cause.

Come let us parsley parley, despite our differences…perhaps we can arrange something muletelly benefishil!

Your EQUAL,

We, The Lantern Lighters, implore that you do not engage with this individual, and instead contribute to our cause to rid the lands of these vagabonds.

Chapter 1: The Saviour in Mauve

Part 2: URGENT NOTICE FROM THE ORDER OF THE SHEPARDS:

“After carefully reviewing the provided steps, methods, and sigils of the supposed miracle ritual of the self-proclaimed ‘Sorcerer King’, we the Order of the Shepherds, with the guidance of the Candle Keepers sect and the Loremasters’ Tower, have determined many falsehoods. There is no such result, magical or mundane, that comes from such fork-tongued lies.

Attempts have been made to enter into a form of correspondence with him and his followers, all unsuccessfully. After an anonymous tip we were eventually able to locate his former hideout. Among the many mundane things that were found scattered in his atelier, it was discovered that he had heretical teachings and texts containing dark magics hidden away in the floorboards.

As such, the Order of the Shepherds hereby condemn the villainous ‘Savior in Mauve’, for not only his attempts at taking advantage of the people still reeling from the horrors that were the Great War, but for practicing and performing blasphemous heresy. Consider this craven to be dangerous and foul, as he is an enemy to not only the public, but to also the very foundations of holiness that we, the Order of the Shepherds, stand for.

With urgency and a heavy heart – Vicar Levina

May she forever guide the lost.”

Part 1: A Request For All New Rulers

Reeling from the Great War, the people of Mortegard have long since isolated themselves from one another. Yet, although the years have passed uneventfully since the end of the war, a change has begun to ripple throughout the remaining settlements.

Hailing from the wastelands between Dun’thak and Sha’haiya, a traveler has emerged alleging he has the mystical knowledge that can undo the damage wrought by the vile Crooked.

“My name has no true value, for the only one who still remembers it is I, a heavy burden that will forever weigh down my heart. Prior to the calamity known as the Great War, I was a Sha’haiyan prince who ruled over a prosperous city. Blessed with an aptitude for the arcane arts, even in the harshness of the desert, crops began to grow and water freely flowed through the channels that ran through my city.

My people called me, ‘The Sorcerer King’.

But no matter what prestige was bestowed upon me, I could do nothing but watch in vain as all that I had built up fell to ruin in the carnage that followed. Admittedly, part in shame and sorrow, I exiled myself and lived for many years in solitude as a hermit. While I isolated myself, I grew restless and wondered if there was a way to fix what had happened. Now, after years toiling away on magical research, I have found a way to perform such a miracle. But… I can’t do it alone.

I beseech the survivors—the people of Mortegard. I alone do not possess the strength to conduct the ritual. I require a sizeable amount of mana, of which I know is much to ask. But if I am correct… then all of the suffering that has afflicted us may soon be but a distant memory.”

Recent History of Mortegard
