About Mortegard

Mortegard is a fantasy world built on the blockchain. Players participate in the living game world, playing roles as rulers, merchants and explorers.

Through live ‘Roleplaying Events’ (held on Discord), players will meet and interact with prominent figures from the world, and help shape the story. These events are largely unscripted and play a pivotal role in the outcome of the game world. By participating they will be rewarded with special upgrades, treasures, characters and even parcels of land.

The land and locations of Mortegard will be governed and developed by players through the Kingdom Building Client. By owning immutable castles and developing the land surrounding them, players will generate resources, which can in turn be used to supply explorers, impact the outcome of events or create powerful structures for their land.

These resources are represented as ERC-20 tokens on the Matic Network and can be sold in Uniswap pools.

For a full rundown the Whitepaper is highly recommended. Read on to begin your journey to building a kingdom.

Browser Setup

Mortegard is built for Web3. To get started you will need one of the above browsers installed on your PC. We recommend Google Chrome or Brave.

Once you have one of these installed, boot it up and return here. If you are already using one them, proceed to the next step.

If you have Eth, but not on the Polygon Network, you can use a bridging service, such as those listed below to move your Eth to the Polygon Network:

Rubic, AnySwap, Polygon Bridge, SimpleSwap

If you have plenty of Matic(or any other token) and want to swap it for Eth, then Uniswap or QuickSwap is recommended to make the exchange.

Installing Metamask

Before you can start on your road to rule in Mortegard, you will need a browser extension called Metamask.

This allows you to interact with Web3 applications and create or use an existing wallet address.

You can download Metamask from their official website here.

If you do not use the link above be sure you are installing the official version of Metamask.

Click the blue button and select your browser of choice.

Once installed it will appear as a small fox icon in the top right of your browser.

Creating or Importing a Wallet

If you do not have a wallet, Metamask allows you to make one with a couple of simple clicks.

Click on the round icon at the top right, then on the ‘create account option’.

Make sure you store your seed phrase in a special place and never share it with anyone you don’t fully trust. It also pays to create a strong password to lock Metamask.

Configuring Metamask for Polygon

Click the button above to add Polygon to Metamask, or follow the instructions below to do it manually.

In order to interact with the Polygon Network you will need to set up Metamask to connect with the network.

To begin, click the extension button, then open the dropdown menu by clicking on the currently selected network – most likely Ethereum.

From there click “Add Network”

Copy the details below into the related fields when adding a new network:

Network Name: Polygon Mainnet
New RPC URL: https://polygon-rpc.com/
Chain ID: 137
Currency Symbol: MATIC
Block Explorer URL: https://polygonscan.com

Once this is done, you can switch between the Polygon Mainnet and other networks at any time by using the same dropdown menu.

Matic Tokens

In order to get started playing Mortegard , you need Matic. This is to execute transactions and interact with contracts required to play the game. a little bit of Matic goes a long way, so not much is required to play.

Some elements of gameplay do not require a castle. In Mortegards’ current state, the majority of content involves owning Castles and developing your land and so Castles are highly recommended.

Note: Before doing any transfers of significant value to you, it is highly recommended to transfer a small amount first, just to make sure the details you have entered are correct.

Where to Buy Matic

Fiat Onramps

Matic can be obtained from a number of places.  Usually for those just starting out, a Fiat onramp such and Binance or Crypto.com is the simplest way to obtain Matic. On these platforms, Matic can be bought with Fiat currency such as Euros and USD.

Some platforms will hold your Matic as a custodial service, which then needs to be moved to your Matic address so you can interact with the Mortegard Game Client

Some fiat onramps requires an address  to send the Matic to as well.

Your Matic address, can be found in the Metamask extension near the top of the window.

Swapping

You may already have cryptocurrency but on another network, such an Ethereum or Binance Smart Chain). You can swap your can swap your existing tokens for some Matic by using a DeFi Exchange such as Uniswap, Sushiwap Or PancakeSwap.

Note that you will still need to get your Matic onto the Polygon Network. There are bridging services available that can do this, including Polygon’s official bridge.

Crosschain Swaps

If you have another cryptocurrency on a different network, or Matic on a different network you can use a bridge or crosschain swapping service.

These services include Rubic, Anyswap and Simpleswap.

Once you have your Matic in your wallet you can begin interacting with the game. However,  to build a kingdom, you will first need a Castle

Once the above is complete, you will now be the proud owner of a castle and ready to begin your rule.

You can now place it in the game world and start building your empire.

Castles

Castles in Mortegard are presented as special tokens called Non-Fungible Tokens(NFTs). These are tokens that hold significantly more data than a standard, divisible, fungible token.

By owning a Castle NFT, you are entitled to 18 tiles of land in the world of Mortegard. More castles, equals more land. You simply have to ‘place your castle down'(referred to as staking) and the land will be granted to you.

Higher their castles grant a base level of resource generation, as shown on the card above. But cheaper, more common castles will not, and you will need to also purchase some resources(albeit not many) via the Uniswap LP to begin building.

Once you own a castle it is yours and cannot be taken away unless you sell it on any marketplace platform of your choice or transfer it willingly to another player.

In order to purchase a castle you will need some Ethereum (ETH) in your Metamask wallet to complete the transaction on Opensea, the marketplace where the castles are sold. You will not need an entire Eth to make a purchase, so do not be intimidated by price.

Getting Eth on Polygon

If you have Eth, but not on the Polygon Network, you can use a bridging service, such as those listed below to move your Eth to the Polygon Network:

Rubic, AnySwap, Polygon Bridge, SimpleSwap

If you have plenty of Matic(or any other token) and want to swap it for Eth, then Uniswap or QuickSwap is recommended to make the exchange.

Purchasing A Castle

Once you have Eth, you can go to the Mortegard Collection on OpenSea.

Here you will see all available NFTs for sale by the development team, or by players of the game. On the left hand(or in the menu on mobile) side you will see categories. Check ‘Castle’ to filter out the currently available castles.

Make your selection by clicking on the castle of your choice.

Then click on the ‘Buy Now’ button.

Complete the required steps for the transaction – note that you may have to pay some gas in the form of Matic to authorize Opensea to spend your Eth, prior to the completion of the transaction.

Resources

Resources are required to create developments to place on your land. While most castles come with a base generation, some do not.

For this reason, or to get a jump start in developing your empire, you will need a few starting resources(or development cards).

We offer liquidity pools on Uniswap for each of the 5 resources used within the games’ ecosystem.

While these pools can be found on Uniswap, the game client offers The Mortegard Exchange – a widget that interfaces with Uniswap to make the acquisition(or sale of) of resources simple.

If you prefer to use Uniswap, you can click the links to below to find the specific resource.

The Mortegard Exchange

The Mortegard Exchange is an inbuilt interface for the resource Liquidity Pools on Uniswap. Click the Uniswap logo on the left of the resources bar to open the exchange window.

In the exchange window, you will be able to select the tokens you wish to swap. simply select the tokens from the dropdown on the left, enter the values on the right and hit “Swap”.

You may be prompted to give permissions to Uniswap to perform these swaps. This is a normal requirement on first interaction and will only have to be done once per token.

And with that you will have the first resources to fill your coffers. Repeat this for the other resources you require to build the developments you like. A minimum of 20 of each is recommended, but you can get away with less and work up from there if you’re crafty, and patient.

Begin Your Empire

Once the above is complete, you will now be the proud owner of a castle and ready to begin your rule.

You can now place it in the game world and start building your empire.
